Nao on Bravo?!

Robin Riskin '12 | April 24, 2010

(And just when I thought I was done with among friends…) Nao is competing on Bravo’s next big thing, a reality TV show premiering June 9 called “Work of Art: the Next Great Artist.” Crazy, huh? Is this in itself a relational art project? (Think “Rosa Does Joan,” anyone?)

Either way, the others are goin’ down, cause Nao’s gonna win.

Bravo doesn’t know what is has coming.

You go, girl.

P.S. I hadn’t done this blog thing in a while. I forgot how to log on — good thing I had Sebastianna’s old emails with the instructions.

P.S.

Robin Riskin '12 | March 23, 2009

Nao’s coming tomorrow…what?!

She has to get up at 4:45 for her morning flight, so be nice to her and maybe even offer her some coffee. Or chocolate.

It was a party.

Robin Riskin '12 |

A sewing party.

A million thanks to Rebecca Church, who lent us two sewing machines and figured out how to make the pouches.

A million thanks to Rebecca Church, who lent us two sewing machines and figured out how to make the pouches.

We got our prototype for the heart gel pack pouches from Nao last week, and started out the third quarter festively with sewing parties Tuesday and Wednesday nights. With five borrowed sewing machines, amazing expert sewers, and regular folk to do the cutting and gluing, we pulled it off. We thought we might need a third sewing party (who doesn’t love a party?), but Jane and Hannah stayed late into the night Wednesday to finish off 55 pouches.

Thursday night I was all set to return the sewing machines. But Facilities Management was closed and couldn’t drive me, so I had to return them by wheelbarrow. Giant wheelbarrow. If you ever need one, check the shack behind Gummere. If you were one of the people who saw me huffing across campus Thursday night dragging a wheelbarrow decked with sewing machines…now you know why.

Come by our Comfort Station in the Campus Center, Thursday 11:00-4:00, to see the fruits of our labors.

“Read more” for more photos.

Alphabets and Sunsets

Robin Riskin '12 |

In John’s conceptual art class, we discussed the British artist Michael Craig-Martin. In his piece “An Oak Tree” (at the Tate), he set a half-full glass of water on a glass shelf and called it an oak tree. To him, it was an oak tree—until he couldn’t get through customs at the airport, so he broke down and told them it was actually a shelf and a glass.

When I was home for spring break, I saw that on my dad’s filing cabinet, he had a set of magnets from an opening of the Craig-Martin show “Alphabets and Sunsets.” Each magnet was a different letter of the alphabet, with a picture on it in the style of “A is for apple, B is for boy.” However, I soon realized that the pictures didn’t go with the letters: A had an umbrella, B a wine glass, and C a knife.

A is for umbrella.

We’ve got the canopy!

Robin Riskin '12 | March 19, 2009

The canopy has been rented for the comfort station. Thank you Taylor Rentals. Thank you James for making me realize the party rental place was Taylor Rentals and not Taylor Reynolds, like the number in physics. Thank you Dorothy for making everything happen at the Campus Center (that’s where all the comfort will be next Thursday).

John was a clown today.

Robin Riskin '12 |

In conceptual art class today, David gave John a fuzzy red hat and put red and yellow face paint on him. The assignment was “Give and take.”

How to make a comfort station pt. 1

Jane Holloway | March 16, 2009

Today I went down to Fabric Row on South 4th St. to pick up some materials for Nao’s talismans. Ever-trusty Liz Turner came along as my unofficial unpaid among friends photographer. Here’s what I got.

I got 10 yards of velcro at Pennsylvania Fabric Outlet. cro
